The obverse features the left profile of Lady Liberty, wearing a diadem, that is engraved with the phrase "LIBERTY." Inscribed at the bottom is the year of mintage along 13 stars that represent the original colonies of America.

The reverse side shows a bald eagle bearing a US flag-based shield on its chest and its wings outstretched, with a bundle of arrows and an olive branch clutched in its talons. Inscribed below is the denomination.
