The Liberty Head $20 Double Eagle gold coin, was entirely designed by James B Longacre. They were struck in order to easily convert gold bullion into coins, but this size was never previously made until the California Gold Rush.

The obverse features the left-facing bust of Lady Liberty, surrounded by 13 stars and the year of mintage.

The reverse displays a heraldic bald eagle surrounded by inscriptions.
