1851-A Gold France 20 Franc Coin NGC AU 55

This 1851-A France 20 Francs 2nd Republic Gold Coin contains .1867 troy oz of gold as well as measures 21 mm in diameter and 1.30 mm in thickness.

The French "Ceres" gold coins were minted from 1849-1851 during the Second Republic of France. This was right after the rule of Louis Philipe but before Napoleon III. The Republic was formed when Prince Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte was elected President. Interestingly, though, the gold coinage presented here does not bear the visage of Louis-Napoleon. Rather, an allegorical figure symbolizing the French Republic, referred to as "Marianne", is seen on the obverse of the coin.

The obverse resembles Ceres, the Roman goddess of grain, agriculture and the love a mother bears for her child. Ceres was beloved for her service to mankind in giving them the gift of the harvest. The reverse displays the official motto of the French Republic, "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite"; translated, "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity". with the date (1851) and the mint mark (A) below with laurel leaves encircling "20 Francs".

The coin's face value, along with its amazing appearance, makes it a great option for both collectors and investors. Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
