Following the Gold Rush in California in the 1830s, the US government decided to make several changes to its coinage system because of the sudden availability of gold. Gold coins were minted in large quantities and new mints were opened to accommodate the demand for more gold coinage. Among the coins that were produced were the $1 Liberty Head gold coin. Each Type 1 Gold Liberty Head contains 0.0484 oz. of .900 fine gold

Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse side of the coin features Lady Liberty facing to the left and circled by thirteen stars. She wears a coronet with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. The reverse side depicts a wreath encircling the date and denomination of the coin, along with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" around the edge.

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
