1812-A France Gold 40 Francs Napoleon PCGS AU 50

This beautiful 40 Franc French coin was graded by PCGS as AU 50! This coin commemorates Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the greatest military minds in history. An amazing coin to add to your collection!

Between 1802 and 1813, Napolean Bonaparte's image was stamped onto French 40 Francs gold. After Napoleon's defeat, subsequent governments pulled his gold coins out of circulation and melted them, making them hard to find nowadays.

Napoleon Bonaparte, often regarded as one of the world’s greatest military minds and politicians, came into power in February of 1800. Napoleon enacted many reforms that changed France and in 1802 was elected consul for life and two days later emperor of  France. Beginning in 1810, however, France suffered back-to-back losses in battle. With international pressure mounting and his government lacking the resources to fight back against his enemies, Napoleon surrendered to allied forces on March 30, 1814.

Though he went into exile on the island of Elba, he quickly escaped the island and made his way to Paris, where he triumphantly returned to power. Napoleon quickly returned to battle and suffered a loss to the British, after which he was sent to the remote island of St. Helena, where this time he would remain and live out the rest of his life.

The obverse portrays Napoleon Bonapart during his reign as emperor. The reverse portrays the denomination (40 Francs) within a wreath with the date below (1812).

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
