This amazing 1 oz Silver South Dakota Bison Round presents the great state of South Dakota with the depiction of Buffalo on the reverse and the seal of South Dakota on the obverse. The seal of South Dakota was selected as a representation of the state and its people in 1885. What makes this coin interesting, is that South Dakota was not officially granted statehood until 1889. The seal depicts a smelting furnace, a steamship, and a field being plowed, or the three industries of South Dakota. Inscribed on the outer edge of the round are the words, "State of South Dakota," and “Great Seal 1889."
