The Buffalo Warrior silver round gets its name from the Lakota warrior and the American Bison, also known as a Buffalo, featured on the round. The obverse depicts a fierce Lakota warrior proudly wearing a full-feather headdress, which, according to Lakota tradition, is one of the highest honors. The reverse showcases an American Bison, known as “Tatonka” to the Lakota, peacefully grazing. On both sides, a triangle pattern lines the edge of the round. The upper triangle symbolizes the stars and the sun, while and lower represents the earth.
