This beautiful Solomon Islands Gold Proof Coin 50th Anniversary celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the World War II battles that occurred between Japanese and US forces involving these islands and Pearl Harbor.

This coin is composed of 0.2508 troy ounces of .999 Fine Gold and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and at a low mintage of 2,500, this is one coin you cannot miss out on!

On December 7, 1941, Japanese forces launched a surprise attack on the US military base located at Pearl Harbor. Realizing that remaining neutral was no longer an option, the United States entered World War II and started with the Solomon Islands. Being a chain of islands that stretched on for 900 miles, this area played a hugely strategic role in the war, which is why the US sought to drive out Japanese forces from there and did so in August 1942.

On the obverse of this coin is sculptor Raphael Maklouf's portrait of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "SOLOMON ISLANDS" and the date of the coin.

On the reverse side, we see an American soldier using a machine gun in an attempt to defend from the Japanese Kate bombers just above. This design was done by sculptor Willem Vis and shows just how overwhelmed the US military base was during this attack. Encircling the rim are the inscriptions "50TH ANNIVERSARY PEARL HARBOR 1941-1991" along with the denomination.
