Since the US Mint first introduced the American Eagle Bullion Coin Series in 1986, investors and collectors worldwide have continued to stock up on Gold, Silver, Platinum, and even Palladium Eagles. The Gold American Eagle, the official bullion coin of the United States, is embellished with recognizable American symbols; including the American Eagle, Lady Liberty, and the US Capitol. To commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin program, the US Mint unveiled brand-new reverse designs for both the Gold Eagles and Silver Eagles back in 2020. This news shocked the coin community, as the reverse designs have not been updated since 1986. The first American Eagles spotlighting the new design were then released in mid-2021. While the reverse for the gold and silver versions have both been updated, the Platinum and Palladium Eagle designs have not been modified. 

The obverse showcases the Augustus Saint-Gaudens image that was inspired by the pre-1933 Gold Double Eagle. In this illustration, Lady Liberty proudly strides forward with a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects symbolize peace and strength. In the background, rays of sunlight shine out from the US Capitol.

The reverse of the Gold Eagle features the new design by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. The close-cropped portrait of a bald eagle inspires a noble intensity that is meant to invoke a sense of pride.

• Reverse: Head of a bald eagle, its gaze directed at the viewer. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the weight, purity, and denomination.
