The obverse of the 2021 Gold Maple Leaf continues to feature the classic 2003 Susanna Blunt illustration of Queen Elizabeth’s portrait. Her Majesty looks to the right, showing off her elegant jewelry including the royal earrings and necklace. The Queen is surrounded by inscriptions noting her name, the denomination, and the year of mintage. A background of thin radial lines originates from the middle of the coin as an added security feature.

The reverse showcases the Maple Leaf, the national symbol of Canada. This particular image was created by engraver Walter Ott. The Maple Leaf is on the center of the coin, and behind it is the secure background of radial lines. For more security, this side has a  smaller maple leaf micro-engraved towards the bottom of the coin. Inscriptions for the purity, weight, and country's name border the rim.
