Private Mint - Metalor
About Metalor
Metalor is among the most respected refineries in the industry. It produces precious metals for industrial usage and bullion bars in the form of silver and gold. Metalor has changed names twice in its 100+ year history. Its longest-running name was Métaux Précieux SA Metalor, and it began in 1852 in Switzerland. The company was first known as the "Preliminary Rolling Factory" in Le Locle in Switzerland. Its primary function was to provide gold for local watch-makers. Since this early beginning, the company has become one of the most well known in the industry as a truly classic refinery. Today, since 2016, Metalor is owned by the Tanaka Kikinzoku Group. This merger expanded the reach of Metalor’s customer base.
The History
In 1852, Martin de Pury & Cie began what would ultimately become Metalor. The "Preliminary Rolling Factory" was the early beginning of this company in Le Locle, Switzerland. The company began modestly: they provided gold for local watchmakers. About 12 years later in 1864, the workshop was acquired by the Bank of Le Locle. Then, in 1918, the workshop was taken over by the Société de Banque Suisse (SBS), also known as the Swiss Bank Corporation. By this time, the workshop expanded to about thirty employees. They also began to refine precious metals and strike bank ingots. By 1932, the SBS subsidiary of Métaux Précieux SA Metalor formed. Finally, in 2016, Métaux Précieux SA Metalor was bought by the Tanaka Kikinzoku group. This acquisition established the company as Metalor and helped them develop an even larger international customer base. Today, Metalor is one of the best-known name brands in the precious metal bullion industry.
