This beautiful Pobjoy Mint Tradition 3-PC Gold, Platinum and Sterling Silver Proof Set is a special limited edition coin set with a worldwide mintage of 750. This "tradition" set is legal tender coinage from the Isle of Man and Gibraltar Government. This limited edition set contains the following unique coins:
- Isle of Man Silver "Black Pearl" Penny Black Crown Sterling silver coin
- Gibraltar Gold Una & Lion 2 Sovereign gold coin
- Isle of Man Platinum Hologram (1/4 oz) Noble coin
The Isle of Man, situated in the Irish Sea, midway between England, Scotland and Ireland has the oldest parliament in the world in continuous existence (since 1979). It's an Independent State that has a long history as well as a diverse culture. The Isle of Man has established an enviable reputation for innovation combined with technical excellence, with such notable achievements including the only seven sided coin with an edge inscription and the World’s first bi-metal coin in gold and titanium. The platinum Noble and the award-winning Penny Black Crown have placed the Isle of Man in the forefront of contemporary numismatics. Gibraltar, meanwhile, is a British oversees territory that is located on the Southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance to the Mediterranean.
The Isle of Man Silver "Black Pearl" Penny Black Crown is a sterling silver coin that has won the "Coin of the Year" award and is the world's first "Pearl Black" coin. It weighs 28.28 g and has a diameter of 38.60 mm. This coin commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Penny Black postage stamp on its reverse, while its obverse has an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Gibraltar Gold Una & Lion 2 Sovereign gold coin weighs a half ounce (15.55 g) and has a diameter of 30 mm. This beautiful coin is inspired by a fairy tale that is loved by many. Una is a princess that seeks help from a fairy to save her family from a spine-chilling dragon that has caused her town to live in despair. The fairy sends her on a journey to find the brave soldier that will be able to slay this beast and save them all. The soldier succeeds in his goal of saving the town from the beast, but an evil magician casts a spell on the soldier to make him leave Una. When Una realizes he is gone she sobs uncontrollably, when suddenly, a lion approaches from behind. The lion, having planned to have the princess as a meal, suddenly looks at her and can't harm her. The lion becomes protective of Una and joins on her journey. The reverse beautifully depicts Una & the Lion with the denomination below. The obverse has an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the year (1997) displayed.
The Isle of Man Platinum Hologram Noble coin was the world's first platinum hologram coin created. The reverse features a viking longship with a stunning hologram sail that adds to the beauty of this coin. The Isle of Man is well known for producing high-quality coins with this exact coin being a fine example.
