After haunting our dreams and imaginations for centuries, Werewolves continue to terrify and excite horror fans across the globe to this day. While various of beliefs have sprung up surrounding this therianthropic hybrid wolf-like creature, its roots can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology as well as ancient Greek literature and mythology. "Actual" Werewolf sightings were first reported in New France: In July 1767, an article in the Gazette de Québec cautioned the public to be on the look-out for a loup-garou (also called lycanthrope or werewolf) disguised as a beggar. In the province of Quebec, the loups-garous is still among the most famous legends of all. How a person transforms into a loup-garou changes depending on the storyteller, but the loup-garou isn’t limited to Quebec. It is believed that Acadians brought the myth with them when they re-settled in Louisiana, where the Cajun Rougarou prowls the bayous and frightens misbehaving children.

Werewolves of all backgrounds and monikers have appeared in literature for centuries, and more recently in film and television.
