The obverse shows the original Adolph A Weinman “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty marches toward the setting sun while holding branches in her left arm. She stretches her right arm to the rising sun. The American flag is draped gently over her shoulders.
The reverse displays the US National Coat of Arm designed by American sculptor John Mercanti. The Bald Eagle grasps a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons while spreading out its sizable wings. The eagle also carries a banner that reads "E Pluribus Unum", and the shield on its chest is embellished with the US flag. Thirteen stars above the eagle symbolize the original colonies. Inscriptions regarding the coin's weight, purity, denomination, and country are positioned around the rim.
