The obverse keeps the Adolph A Weinman “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty walks toward the setting sun while carrying branches in her left arm. She stretches her right arm to the rising sun. The American flag is draped over her shoulders.

The reverse displays the US National Coat of Arms as designed by American sculptor John Mercanti. The Bald Eagle, wings spread apart, grasps a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The eagle also carries a banner that reads "E Pluribus Unum", and the shield on its chest is embellished with the US flag. Thirteen stars above the eagle reference the original colonies. Inscriptions regarding the coin's weight, purity, denomination, and country are positioned around the rim.
