The US Mint struck each of these coins from .999 fine silver with a weight of 1 troy ounce. Additionally, each Type 2 Silver Eagle coin arrives graded by PCGS as MS 69 with the FS designation. For the 35th anniversary, the US Mint has put a new reverse design in place for the American Gold and Silver Eagles. The new reverse for both spotlights the American Bald Eagle in two different ways, but both capture a more realistic angle of the bird. The Type 2 Silver Eagle displays an American Eagle in mid-flight. The US Mint also added new security features to the coin, including an anti-counterfeit reeded edge. This security feature appears like a “gap” variation in the coin’s edge. Additionally, the obverse has been further modified to display a more accurate version of Adolph A Weinman’s “Walking Liberty.” This design was implemented for the 1916-1917 silver half dollars. Restored elements include Weinman's initials, the year of mintage font, as well as minor details for Liberty's eye, bonnet, flag, and the solar rays.

The new reverse design of the Type 2 Silver Eagle coins bears the American bald eagle in flight as it carries an oak branch in its talons. The eagle is surrounded by inscriptions including the country, weight, purity, denomination, and the US motto “E Pluribus Unum”. The obverse design of the new 2021 Silver Eagle will remain the same. 

The obverse continues to show the historic design by Adolph A Weinman’s “Walking Liberty”. Lady Liberty strides forth towards the setting sun. She carries oak and laurel branches in her left arm while outstretching her right arm to the horizon. The American flag is draped over her shoulders and flaps gently in the breeze.
