It is a known fact among investors that Chilean Peso is considered to be one of the strongest currencies in South America. The sound monetary policy of Chile and the years of economic stability have given the Peso a strong presence. The Chilean 100 Peso is the most favored coin for investment among the Latin American Gold Coins.
In 1925, the Peso became a monetary unit of Chile, and the 100 Peso coins were minted from 1926-1980.
The design of the coin is beautiful and on the obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a laurel crown. She is wearing a traditional Chilean dress and the Star of Chile which can be found on the Chilean Flag can be seen on her draped shoulder. The inscription on the obverse are "REPUBLICA DE CHILE" around the top of the image, and the mintage year is struck below the image. The rim has a beaded design. The coin has an edge bar and the rim has a beaded design.
The reverse features the National Coat of Arms of Chile, in which an Andean Heumul and an Andean Condor (both wearing navy’s golden crown to honor the heroism of the Chilean Navy) are supporting a shield with a five-pointed star in the center and is topped with three feather crest. The inscriptions “CIEN PESOS” and “DIEZ CONDORES” are engraved on the top and bottom respectively. The left side of the coin has the denomination 100 Pesos and the right has the mint mark of Santiago Mint, where these coins were produced.
Only the 1926 coin has a slightly different design where it can be observed that the main device on both the obverse and reverse are clearly demarcated, whereas in the later issues there is no demarcation of the design and the date on the obverse is superimposed on the main device. The inscription lettering are also small. In the 1926 issue, on the reverse side, the 100 Ps is clockwise and reads along with the wording CIEN PESOS where as in the later issues, the 100 Ps is anticlockwise and reads along with the wording DIEZ CONDORES.
The coin is made of 0.5886 troy oz of 0.900 Fine Gold and has 10% copper alloy which makes them strong and durable.
Even in scruffy condition, these coins pack a great price performance. These exotic coins will add elegance to your portfolio due to their beautiful design and the high gold content.
