Oklahoma Goldbacks Launch August 25: A New Era for Spendable Gold
A Groundbreaking Addition to the Goldback Series
On August 25, 2025, Goldback Inc. will officially release the Oklahoma Goldbacks, marking a pivotal milestone in the evolution of this innovative gold currency. This much-anticipated series is notable for introducing the first-ever 3 Goldback denomination - a new addition to the line of fractional gold notes that have redefined how physical gold can be used in everyday commerce.
The Oklahoma series is expected to include a full range of denominations, likely mirroring those released in the Florida Goldback series earlier this year: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and possibly ½, 2, and 100 Goldbacks. Collectors and enthusiasts can preview the new designs at the 2025 ANA World’s Fair of Money, held in Oklahoma from August 19–23, ahead of the official public release.
What Are Goldbacks?
Goldbacks are small-denomination, voluntary currency notes made with thin layers of 24-karat gold sealed inside durable polymer sheets. Each note is precisely denominated in gold weight - making them both functional and intrinsically valuable.
Originally introduced to promote local spending and economic resilience, Goldbacks have since grown into a national phenomenon. They are:
-
Spendable in select local economies where merchants voluntarily accept them
-
Barter-friendly in prepping and off-grid communities
-
Collectible and giftable thanks to their intricate, state-specific designs
-
Used as an inflation hedge, especially in small, divisible units
Goldbacks are ideal for anyone seeking a practical, fractional form of physical gold ownership.
Confirmed Designs: Oklahoma 1 and 3 Goldbacks
While full imagery for the Oklahoma series has yet to be unveiled, two notes have confirmed design details:
-
1 Goldback – Virtue of Perseverantia
This note depicts Perseverantia on horseback amid Oklahoma wildflowers, symbolizing the tenacity and pioneering spirit of the state. While details are limited, this scene promises to capture the enduring strength of Oklahoma’s frontier heritage. -
3 Goldback – Virtue of Ingenium
This groundbreaking new denomination features Ingenium, a virtue that reflects Oklahoma’s vibrant musical legacy. She stands proudly in Black Mesa State Park, surrounded by prairie thistle and yucca, with a mule deer watching and a Western Tanager soaring above. Her embroidered jeans carry the Oklahoma Rose, a nod to her roots. Ingenium represents creativity born from Oklahoma’s “red earth,” honoring artists from Woody Guthrie to Reba McEntire who helped shape America’s musical identity.
The 3 Goldback note marks a historic milestone as the first-ever denomination of its kind. Containing 0.003 troy ounces of 24k gold, this Limited Early Release (LER) is capped at just 4,000 notes - making it an instant collector’s item with strong potential for future rarity. While the 3 denomination will not become a standard offering in future Goldback series, it may return as a recurring feature in future LER programs for upcoming state launches. This exclusivity elevates the 3 Goldback’s appeal, positioning it as a unique and sought-after piece within the broader Goldback ecosystem.
Previous Goldback State Releases
Each Goldback series showcases a unique state, complete with its own virtues and visual themes:
-
Utah Goldbacks (2019): The debut series paid tribute to Utah’s strong traditions of faith, independence, and community values.
-
Nevada Goldbacks (2020): Showcased the Silver State’s deep ties to mining history and its untamed, adventurous frontier heritage.
-
New Hampshire Goldbacks (2021): Focused on the Granite State’s enduring ideals of personal freedom, resilience, and self-reliance.
-
Wyoming Goldbacks (2022): Illustrated the raw beauty and vast landscapes of the American West, symbolizing rugged individualism.
-
South Dakota Goldbacks (2023): Highlighted historical themes and iconic scenery from the state’s rich cultural and patriotic legacy.
-
Florida Goldbacks (2025): Marked a major expansion with new fractional and high-value notes, capturing Florida’s natural wonders and diverse historical narratives.
The Utah, Nevada, and New Hampshire series were officially retired in June 2025, with redesigned reissues expected to begin in 2026. These legacy designs lacked the advanced security and expanded denominations of newer series, prompting their modernization.
Security and Technological Upgrades
All 2025 Goldbacks, including the Oklahoma series, are printed with UV-reactive ink to deter counterfeiting. Hidden design elements become visible under ultraviolet light when viewed with the official Goldback UV Penlight, ensuring authenticity and peace of mind for both merchants and collectors.
This innovation reflects the program’s ongoing commitment to security, trust, and visual artistry.
