Arizona Goldbacks Launch November 18, 2025; Idaho Next in 2026
A New Chapter in the Goldback Story
On November 18, 2025, Goldback Inc. will officially launch the Arizona Goldback series, the eighth state to join this innovative line of spendable gold notes.
While the full artwork for the higher denominations has not been revealed, the series is expected to include every standard denomination: ½, 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 Goldbacks. Each note will feature designs celebrating Arizona’s landscapes, culture, and heritage, produced with thin layers of 24-karat gold sealed inside a protective polymer substrate — a hallmark of the Goldback brand.
Idaho has also been confirmed as the next state in the program, with its series slated for release in early 2026, marking the ninth state in the Goldback line.
Spotlight on the Arizona 1 Goldback
Goldback has revealed the design of the Arizona 1 Goldback, offering collectors their first look at the state’s theme. The note features Temperantia (Temperance), depicted in historic Mexican attire, surrounded by Sonoran desert life — from prickly pear cactus and a desert tortoise to a javelina. Architectural elements, including the Mission San José de Tumacácori, honor Arizona’s Spanish and indigenous roots. This intricate artwork sets the tone for the rest of the series, blending cultural heritage with natural beauty.
What Are Goldbacks?
Goldbacks are small-denomination, voluntary currency notes made from 24-karat gold encapsulated in a clear, durable polymer. Each note’s value is based on its precise gold weight, making it both spendable and intrinsically valuable.
Goldbacks were created to provide a practical way to own and use gold in fractional amounts. They are:
-
Accepted by participating merchants in several U.S. states.
-
Collected worldwide for their artwork and limited-edition appeal.
-
A hedge against inflation, offering a tangible store of value.
-
Durable and secure, thanks to advanced production technology.
Every state series combines gold bullion with local symbolism, transforming each note into a miniature work of art and a practical asset.
The Goldback Series So Far
Goldbacks first appeared in Utah in 2019 and have expanded steadily across the United States:
-
Utah (2019) – Honoring pioneer traditions and community values.
-
Nevada (2020) – Celebrating mining heritage and the adventurous frontier spirit.
-
New Hampshire (2021) – Reflecting independence and resilience.
-
Wyoming (2022) – Featuring mountains, prairies, and Equality State history.
-
South Dakota (2023) – Showcasing landmarks and patriotic themes.
-
Florida (January 2025) – Capturing tropical landscapes and early settlement stories.
-
Oklahoma (August 2025) – Introducing the first-ever 3 Goldback Limited Early Release.
Arizona and Idaho continue this momentum, expanding access to fractional gold while preserving each state’s unique narrative.
Security and Collectibility
Modern Goldbacks, including Arizona’s upcoming notes, incorporate UV-reactive ink, microtext, and layered gold foils to protect against counterfeiting. Special issues, such as Limited Early Release (LER) notes, have become prized for their rarity and first-edition status. Collectors often seek out early runs for their long-term appreciation potential.
In June 2025, the Utah, Nevada, and New Hampshire Goldback series were formally retired, paving the way for redesigned editions planned for 2026. The original notes did not feature the enhanced security measures or broader range of denominations found in newer releases, prompting their planned modernization.
Why These Releases Matter
Goldbacks merge the stability of gold with everyday usability, while celebrating local history and values. The Arizona launch introduces a vibrant Southwestern chapter, and Idaho’s forthcoming release signals continued growth of the Goldback concept in the Pacific Northwest.
