We are happy to announce the latest of the unmatched Star Wars Bullion series. A release by the New Zealand Mint, these coins feature officially licensed images of favorite characters from the Star Wars movie series. Star Wars is one of the top movie franchises of all time. It set its iconic storyline in “a galaxy far, far away.” The New Zealand Mint began this series of coins in 2011. The first, a line of incredible gold and silver coins. They announce that its latest release will commemorate the Stormtrooper character.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Created by George Lucas, this incredibly popular franchise kicked off with its first movie release in 1977. As of 2015, the approximate value of this series was at $42 billion. It is the second highest-grossing media franchise of all time. Indeed, it has played an iconic role in popular culture. A boom of science fiction releases in the 1970s and 80s came to follow it. The US National Film Registry preserves the movie for its cultural significance. Many use phrases from this film in colloquial language, specifically “may the Force be with you.” This, in turn, triggered an unofficial holiday- May 4th, as “Star Wars Day”.

Stormtroopers

Stormtroopers are the police force for the Galactic Empire. They are the backbone of the Imperial Military. These are the forces sent out to stop the Rebel Alliance. Easily identified by their white armor worn over black body gloves, they carry blasters and laser rifles in the films.

The Stormtrooper characters underwent a lot of development throughout the film series.

In the release of the first films, they had non-identifying personalities. The troopers were remaining staunchly loyal to the Empire and unremorsefully evil. As the series progresses, the audience learns that during the Clone Wars, they were merely military members. Members who had not yet been absorbed by the Empire and had no real human component to their character. So, they were merely machines in a human form. In one of the Clone War films, they fought for the Jedi, but in a way that didn’t place them on the good side. Instead, they simply acted as a weapon that was in the hands of the Jedi forces. In the more recent releases, we have been able to see a different side altogether of these mostly faceless characters underneath their bucket-shaped helmets. We meet Stormtrooper Finn, who defects from the Dark Side and leaves the Stormtrooper order behind to join the Rebel forces.
