With the success of the 2019-W Lincoln Penny in mind, the US Mint has released the first-ever 2020-W Jefferson Nickel struck at the West Point Mint. Now, this nickel is available exclusively with the three annual 2020-S US Mint 10-Coin Sets. Most importantly, this set is one of the US Mint’s signature products, and this W mintmark Jefferson Nickel is not available for purchase individually. Therefore, this is a great addition to any collection, so collectors should grab this special edition release now!

What is the 2020-W Jefferson Nickel?

The Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints all struck the Jefferson Nickel since 1938. However, the West Point Mint has never produced this coin, until now.

The nickel's design has changed throughout history. The designer behind the 2005 Westward Journey Nickel series and the current nickel is Jamie Franki. Franki has also designed more awards for the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money and National Money Shows than any other artist in addition to designing medals for the US Olympic Team. Most notably, in 2005, Franki illustrated the American Buffalo on the reverse of the 2005 Jefferson Nickel. Then, in 2006, he also designed a modernized version of the "Return to Monticello" from 1938. This features Thomas Jefferson on the obverse of the coin, and the reverse is his home, Monticello, in Virginia. This design's popularity was immense, and it is the design for this 2020-W Jefferson Nickel. Bullion Exchanges is honored to offer you the PCGS labeled coin autographed by Jamie Franki.

This coin is one of three special 2020-W Jefferson Nickels to be released this year. All the designs for the 2020-W Jefferson Nickels are by Franki. This first release has a proof finish with a mirror-like background and frosted foreground to create a deep cameo effect. Next, in April 2020, the US Mint released a reverse proof 2020 Jefferson Nickel. This also comes with special autographed Jamie Franki labels. The final release will be the West Point Mint's uncirculated 2020 Jefferson Nickel. Lastly, this nickel is graded by either PCGS or NGC. It is only available through the purchase of a set and not for individual sale.

History of US Mint and ATB Coin Sets

The US Mint began in 1792 and has rendered national history through their coins. Moreover, they are the sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage in the United States. They also provide Congressional Gold Medals and coin-related products that include proof, uncirculated, and commemorative coins. This is in addition to their silver and gold bullion coins. Above all, the US Mint is one of the oldest US agencies in the federal government. They release coins of each denomination with proof versions of America the Beautiful Program annually.

The obverse of these ATB quarters displays George Washington. However, this portrait is an updated version from the original 1932 Washington quarter. On the reverse, there are five new designs every year, but there will only be one in 2021.

Furthermore, these coins memorialize a national park or site. Since 2010, this beautiful program by the US Mint annually issues designs of national parks and sites on quarters. Each state, federal district, and territory has or will have a design. The releases align with the order of when each park or site was nationally recognized. Some designs will be new renditions of previous portrayals on state quarters. Specifically, these new versions include the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, and Yosemite in California. Next year, the ATB Quarters Program will complete after its inception in 2010.

What's in the 2020 US Mint PROOF set?

2020 US Mint Coin Set America The Beautiful

This year, this set includes five coins from the ATB Program. These quarters are the National Park of American Samoa (AS), Weir Farm National Historic Site (CT), Salt River Bay National Historical Park (VI), Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (VT), and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (KS) proof quarters. But, the second release of this product has these quarters in a special silver proof finish.

The other five coins are coins of common denominations. These include one Kennedy half dollar, one Roosevelt dime, one Jefferson nickel, one Lincoln penny, and one Native American $1 coinThis Native American coin is also something you might take extra care to enjoy. This coin’s reverse displays the effigy of renowned advocate Elizabeth Peratrovich. She influenced the 1945 Anti-Discrimination Law in the Alaskan Territorial legislature. This coin honors her both as an important influence and as a member of the Tlingit Raven moiety. In addition to her portrait, the raven in the foreground of the reverse signifies her heritage.

This set includes two plastic encasings inside a box with a stunning design of the Washington Monument on the cover in the twilight. The first has the five ATB quarters, while the second encasing holds the common denomination coins. All these coins bear the S mintmark from the San Francisco Mint. Lastly, a Certificate of Authenticity comes with all sets.

In the 2020 US Mint Proof Set you inaccurately list the Salt River National Historic Park as VT (Vermont) when it should be VI (US Virgin Islands). The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park coin is correct as being in VT (Vermont)
