The 2020 Proof 10-coin Set release is the first of three 2020 annual sets produced by the US Mint. Inspired by the success of the 2019-W Lincoln Penny, each of the three 2020 sets will have a 2020-W Jefferson Nickel as a special edition. This year, for the first time ever, the Jefferson Nickel was produced at the US Mint’s West Point Facility. The coin has a proof finish and features the “W” mintmark. This coin was graded by PCGS as a perfect PF 70 with the First Day of Issue designation. This nickel also comes with a special autographed label by Jamie Franki, the artist behind the design of the coin. The 10 coins in the set are packaged in two clear cases with a beautifully designed box showing off the Washington Monument in the twilight. The first case houses the eleventh release of five quarters from America the Beautiful Program, and the second case has five common denomination coins. All coins in the set have proof finish and feature “S” mintmark.

The 2020-W Jefferson Nickel is available exclusively with the 2020 US Mint Proof Set. The proof finish has a deep cameo and a mirror-like background with a frosted foreground. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Thomas Jefferson with inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST”, “Liberty”, “2020”, and the “W” mint mark from West Point. 

The reverse shows the depiction of Jefferson’s home Monticello, known as the “Return to Monticello” design by Franki. Inscriptions include “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “MONTICELLO”, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, as well as the denomination of the coin.
