PEZ candy was invented in Austria in 1927 by Eduard Haas as a potential alternative to smoking.  Haas took the first, middle, and last letters of the German word for peppermint (“pfefferminz”) and combined them to form the word “PEZ”. Interestingly, this famous candy was initially round and called “PEZ Drops,” however, it was quickly changed to the brick shape we admire today. By 1952 PEZ candy made it to America, and quickly gained popularity. In 1973 the company built a PEZ factory in Connecticut. in America After reaching American shelves in 1952 with great success, the candy company physically established itself on American soil in 1973 by building a factory in Connecticut.
