The obverse shows a miniature portrayal of the Big 5 walking single file next to an African Baobab tree. The phrase “AFRICA BIG 5” is inscribed in the coin’s center, right above the Coat of arms of Chad. The weight, purity, and denomination are also shown on the obverse.

The reverse portrays an enchanting collage of the Big 5 animals, shaped to depict the mainland of Africa. The lion’s facade looks out from West Africa where countries like Mali, Mauritania, and Ghana are found, with its mane extending into Northern Africa, above countries like Algeria and Morocco.
