The obverse shows a miniature portrayal of the Big 5 walking single file next to an African Baobab tree. The phrase “AFRICA BIG 5” is inscribed in the coin’s center, right above the Coat of arms of Chad. The weight, purity, and denomination are also shown on the obverse.

The reverse displays a captivating collage of the Big 5 animals, shaped to represent the continent of Africa. The lion’s face looks out from West Africa where countries like Mali, Mauritania, and Ghana are located, with its mane expanding into Northern Africa, above countries like Algeria and Morocco. The leopard gazes ahead from the area of West Africa, including Benin and Nigeria, as well as Central Africa, depicting countries like Chad and Cameroon. The buffalo sternly gazes over the Eastern side of North Africa, where countries such as Libya, Egypt, and Sudan are found. The elephant expands its tusks over Eastern Africa, which includes Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. Lastly, the powerful black rhino stands strong in Southern Africa, over countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
