First minted in 1986, the American Eagle Series is produced in silver, gold, platinum, and palladium varieties. Last year, for the 35th anniversary of the coin’s release, the US Mint announced a redesign of the reverse for the American Gold and Silver Eagles. This 2022 Silver Eagle features the new reverse design by artist Emily Damstra.

The obverse for the 2022 American Silver Eagle continues to showcase Adolph A. Weinman’s historic “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty walks towards the setting sun with oak and laurel branches in her left arm, while reaching out her right arm towards the horizon. The American flag is draped over her shoulders. 

The reverse of the 2022 Silver Eagle presents the brand new design by AIP (Artist Infusion Program) member Emily Damstra. Artist Michael Gaudioso brought her vision to life. A majestic bald eagle prepares to land, its wings open wide to slow its movement. The eagle carries an oak branch in its talons to fortify its nest.
