American Silver Eagles have been in production since 1986, but the West Point Mint has only struck the Proof Silver Eagles since 2001. The coins produced from 1986 to 1992 were struck at the San Francisco facility and showcase the “S” mintmark. These were followed by the 1993-2000 coins, which display the “P” mintmark that indicates they were minted at the Philadelphia facility. Starting from 2001, all Proof Silver Eagles are now produced at the West Point facility and bear the “W” mintmark. Therefore, these 2021 Proof Silver Eagles bear the W-mintmark from West Point. The obverse of the coin remains the same as all previous Silver American Eagle coins with the beloved Adolph A Weinman “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty strides forth towards the rising sun on the left side of the coin. Her right arm is outstretched to the sun, and her left arm holds branches. Lady Liberty’s dress and the flag that is draped around her shoulders flap gently behind her. “LIBERTY” is inscribed along the rim of the coin in addition to the year of issue and “IN GOD WE TRUST”. 

The reverse displays John Mercanti’s rendition of the US national coat of arms. Here, a bald eagle stretches its wings. In its talons are a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The eagle holds a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak, and its chest is decorated with a shield showing the US flag. 13 stars shine above the eagle’s head, representing the original colonies. The weight, purity, denomination, and country’s name are inscribed around the rim.
