The obverse of the Silver Eagle still features Adolph Weinman’s image of Lady Liberty striding forward, gently enveloped in the US flag. Her right hand reaches out towards the rising sun as her left hand gently cradles branches of laurel and oak.
The reverse showcases the renowned John Mercanti design of a heraldic bald eagle. The eagle, with wings open wide, bears a striped shield on its chest. A banner clutched in the eagle’s beak reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. The eagle grasps an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other.
