The obverse features the design created by the student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Adolph A. Weinman. This “Walking Liberty” design first appeared in 1916 on Silver Half Dollars. On the Type 2 Silver Eagle, certain elements of this iconic obverse design have been enhanced to more closely resemble the original image. Lady Liberty strides forward with her right arm outstretched, holding branches of oak in her left arm. The U.S. flag gently billows behind her as the sun rises in the background.

The reverse shows off the brand-new reverse design by AIP artist Emily Damstra. A bald eagle soars through the air while carrying an oak branch in its talons. It appears to be coming in for a landing with its wings outstretched.
