Bullion Exchanges is delighted to bring you the 2021 2 oz Antiqued Silver Tears of the Moon Coin. Honoring the Moon Goddess Mama Quilla, this coin features a stunning Perspex dome removable insert containing particles of silver suspended in purified mineral oil. While bearing a face value of $2 (TVD), this coin’s worth far exceeds that amount due to its silver content and innovative design elements. The themed outer package showcases dark blue Inca-style patterns, and a COA accompanies this marvelous mythological coin as well. This special silver coin’s antiqued finish conveys the appearance of an ancient artifact, further enhancing the coin’s aesthetic appeal. Only 2,500 of these limited-mintage 2021 Antiqued Silver Tears of the Moon Coins were produced, so be sure to buy before the sun rises high!
Mama Quilla, the Goddess of the Moon, is the daughter of Viracocha, Supreme Creator God, and Mama Cocha, goddess of the sea. Mama Quilla was worshipped by the Incan Empire, which flourished in South America during the 12th Century until the Spanish conquest in the 1500’s. The Incas believed that lunar eclipses were caused by an animal of some sort trying to attack Mama Quilla. Because they greatly feared the world being swallowed in darkness, Incas would throw weapons and make lots of noise during eclipses to try and scare the animals away. The Incas also claimed that Mama Quilla, also known as “Mama Killa” or “Mother Moon”, cried tears of silver that fell down to earth. These tears could then be mined as precious metal. This myth has been brought to life by the “Tears of the Moon” coin, with silver particles suspended in mineral oil in the coin’s center.
The obverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as a border of various inscriptions around the coin’s domed center. A circular pattern of Inca crosses (chakana) is also depicted on the obverse.
The reverse features an artistic illustration of Mama Quilla and her apparent animal adversaries, believed to attack Mama Quilla during lunar eclipses. Mama Quilla’s figure surrounds the Perspex dome in the coin’s center, which contains suspended particles of silver representing her tears.
