Chakras are understood to be various focal points used in a variety of ancient meditation practices collectively known as Tantra. Tantra refers to the rich inner traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism. While Buddhist texts consistently mention 5 chakras, Hinduism usually presents 6 or 7 in its sources. Other religions such as Judaism and Paganism also explore the chakras in their own way through sacred texts and practices. 

Artist Phil Lewis draws from the Hindu idea of seven chakras for his unique series. This release from PAMP Suisse focuses on the second primary chakra, or the Sacral Chakra. Also known as “Svadhisthana”, the sacral chakra is associated with pleasure, sense of oneself, relationships, sensuality and procreation. Additionally, each chakra is connected to an element and a color: The related color for the second chakra is orange, and the associated element is water. This chakra, located below the belly button, invokes a sense of playfulness - just like the koi fish featured on the coin. Svadhisthana is normally represented by a lotus with a crescent moon in the center, symbolizing the water element.

The obverse of the coin displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by inscriptions. Her bust appears in front of a mosaic-style background, with lotus swirls weaving throughout the outer petals of the lotus. The year of mintage and the serial number are featured at the top and bottom of the obverse, respectively.

The reverse showcases the gorgeous and vibrant image inspired by the second chakra, Svadhisthana. Two koi fish swim together within a blue circle in the center of the coin, bordered by a rich blend of orange, red, yellow, and black designs.
