This 2021 8 gram Chinese Gold Panda 100 Yuan coin is one of the newest releases in the Chinese Mint’s beloved Gold Panda series. Struck from .999 fine gold and weighing 8 grams, this coin will enhance the value of any gold portfolio! With a face value of 100 yuan, this Chinese Panda coin is considered legal tender in China. However, it is worth a great deal more due to its gold purity and content.

In 1982, the Chinese Gold Panda series was first issued by the People’s Bank of China. The series initially included coins available in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz sizes. Later on, the 5 oz, 12 oz, and 1/20 oz sizes were added. The People’s Bank of China decided to switch their measurements over to the metric system in 2016, releasing 1, 3, 8, 15, and 30 gram coins. Additionally, Proof editions of the Panda coins are struck in 1 kilo, 150 grams, 100 grams, and 50 grams. Collectors certainly appreciate the panda series for its diverse size range, but they also eagerly anticipate the annually-updated reverse design as well!

The obverse displays the Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings located in central Beijing. The year of mintage is inscribed around the rim, along with the Chinese characters for “People’s Republic of China.”

The reverse for the Gold Panda depicts a mother panda watching over her offspring as it climbs up a tree. The coin’s denomination is inscribed above the mother’s head while the weight and purity are inscribed along the rim.
