The story of the world-famous Fender company began with a humble radio repairman named Leo Fender, who found a knack for tinkering with friends’ defective amplifiers. He then produced musical instruments and amplifiers with his business partner Doc Kaufmann. After parting ways with Doc, Fender started his own company in 1946. He envisioned a new and improved guitar that would be louder and more acoustically versatile than its competitors. This dream led to the creation of the two-pickup “Telecaster” in 1951, which developed from the single pickup “Esquire” guitar model. The Esquire was the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitar sold by Fender. To honor the successful company’s 75th Anniversary, PAMP Suisse struck this first-ever silver guitar pick coin!

The obverse of the silver guitar pick features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions on this side include the Queen’s name, the coin’s face value, serial number, and “Solomon Islands.”

The reverse displays an intricate design surrounding the red Fender logo. A banner at the top reads “Since 1946”, which is partially obscured by a Fender guitar headstock enveloped in rays of sunlight. Underneath the Fender logo, an American Eagle bears a shield on its chest while spreading its wings, a design remnant of the US Seal. This shield contains a white silhouette of a musician holding a guitar overhead. On the eagle’s wings a banner with the words “The Spirit of Rock and Roll” are displayed.  Other design features include a checkerboard background with lightning bolts and two hands in the “rock on” position.
