Officially declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, The Forbidden City continues to be the biggest agglomeration of preserved ancient wooden structures on earth.

The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s artistic rendering of Queen Elizabeth II. She is facing to the right, surrounded by inscriptions.

The reverse of the coin showcases the intricately designed 4-layer carvings remnant of ancient Chinese architecture. Inscriptions include the year of mintage and “Forbidden City”.
