The obverse features the “Walking Liberty” illustration originally used on the 1916-1947 silver half-dollar. Elements modified to reflect the original design of the coin include Weinman's initials, the year of mintage font, as well as minor details for Liberty's eye, bonnet, flag, and the solar rays. Lady Liberty walks towards the setting sun while carrying oak and laurel branches. The American flag is draped over her shoulders and her dress billows gently in the wind.

The new reverse design of the American Silver Eagles depicts the American bald eagle in flight with an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions that surround the eagle note the country, weight, purity, denomination, and US motto “E Pluribus Unum”.
