The obverse displays the image of the Mexican Coat of Arms- A golden eagle clutching a snake in its beak and talon. The image is surrounded by a circular design comprised of the words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" and an olive and oak wreath. 

The reverse displays a depiction of the "El Ángel" or Angel of Independence, built-in 1910 to commemorate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, holds a laurel wreath in her one hand and a broken chain in the other. This symbolizes both triumph and freedom. In the background stand two famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
