2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagle PCGS MS 69 FS (Philadelphia) Emergency Issue

Please note this coin was produced by the Philadelphia Mint but does not carry the "P" mint mark.

The coronavirus pandemic has led the US Mint to temporarily freeze operations at two minting facilities. Therefore, 240,000 2020 American Silver Eagle Coins were instead struck by the Philadelphia Mint. These emergency production American Eagle silver bullion coins do not carry a P-mintmark, but if you are curious why you might buy these American Silver Eagles, these coins have been a staple for coin collectors for decades. Additionally, these limited-edition coins are labeled as emergency production coins with a special PCGS Philadelphia graded label, which adds to their collectibility. The silver coins carry a face value of $1 USD and are made with .999 fine silver with a weight of 1 oz. Finally, these American Eagle silver bullion coins were graded a near-perfect MS 69 with a First Strike designation. These American Eagle silver bullion coins would make a great gift for any coin collector, whether they are a novice or expert, so purchase yours today!

Premiering in 1986, the American Eagle Series was a highly sought-after silver coin and still is today. This is because the American Eagle series is the first US bullion coin series since FDR outlawed collecting precious metals during the Great Depression. The American Eagle silver bullion coins continue to be one of the most popular annual purchases for collectors internationally. Produced by the US Mint and backed by the US government, American silver dollars also make a great first buy for anyone beginning to collect bullion coins.

The obverse of this coin has the original “Walking Liberty” 1916 Adolph  A. Weinman illustration. Weinman’s design was first seen on the American silver half dollars in the early 1900s. In the illustration, Lady Liberty marches to the left side of the American Eagle silver bullion coin. Her right arm reaches towards the rising sun and the American flag waves behind her. She also carries olive and oak branches in her left arm as she walks forth.

The reverse of the American silver dollars bears the updated US National Coat of Arms by John Mercanti. The bald eagle with its wings spread apart is the centerpiece of this Coat of Arms. This heraldic eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other to symbolize the “peace through strength” mantra of the US. The eagle also clutches a banner in its beak which reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. A shield lays on the eagle’s chest, which proudly emblazons the US flag. Finally, thirteen stars lie above the eagle’s head as a nod to the original thirteen colonies.

  • Reverse: Displays the US national coat of arms. Here, a bald eagle clutches an olive branch in its right talons and arrows in its left. 13 small stars fly above the eagle, representing the original colonies. The eagle has a shield bearing the flag on its chest. Inscriptions include the weight, purity, denomination, and country’s name around the rim. An updated design by John Mercanti.
