The royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom dates back to ancient times and symbolizes authority and military might. Utilized by the ruling British monarch, the Coat of Arms underwent various changes throughout the years. The royal coat of arms shown on this coin first appeared on the currency in the 14th century and is now used by Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II.

The obverse of the coin displays the regal effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Her head faces towards the right, adorned with her royal crown and elegant jewelry.

The reverse, designed by Timothy Noad, showcases the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. A lion and unicorn seem to be leaping out from behind a shield. The shield bears the crest representing the nations of the United Kingdom. The rampant lion represents Scotland, the harp represents Ireland, and the three lions represent England. Inscribed underneath the lion and unicorn is the phrase ‘DIEU ET MON DROIT’ (‘God and my right’) and ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’ (‘shame upon him who thinks evil upon it’) is inscribed upon the shield. The background features a radial line texture which serves to enhance the overall design aesthetic.
