The royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom dates back to ancient times and represents authority and power. Used by the ruling British monarch, the Coat of Arms has undergone various alterations throughout the years. The royal coat of arms displayed on this coin first appeared on currency in the 1300s and is currently used by Queen Elizabeth II. 

The obverse of the coin showcases the recognizable effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Her bust faces right, adorned with her royal crown and elegant jewels.

The reverse, designed by Timothy Noad,  features the royal coat of arms. A lion and unicorn support a shield bearing the crest representing the nations of the United Kingdom. Three lions represent England, the rampant lion represents Scotland, and the harp represents Ireland. ‘DIEU ET MON DROIT’’ (‘God and my right’) is inscribed underneath the lion and unicorn while ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’ (‘shame upon him who thinks evil upon it’) is inscribed on the shield. The background features a radial line texture.
