This bimetallic coin was manufactured through a special process known as Bi-Metal Max. This process required completely covering an 11.5 oz copper center with 2 oz layers of .999 fine silver. These ultra-high relief coins were then given an antique finish.
The Nine Worthies Series is a new bimetallic coin collection that showcases nine historical, scriptural, and legendary people who embody the chivalrous ideal. Jacques de Longuyon in his book The Vows of the Peacock identified those who are featured in this collection. Three major groups of people emerged from the text that include Pagan, Christian, and Jewish peoples. King Arthur is one of the best-known legends of all time. He is the first release in the Christian group, famous for pulling the enchanted sword, Excalibur, from a stone. He also quested for the Holy Grail with his Knights of the Round Table.
The obverse of the bimetallic coin showcases the Republic of Chad’s Coat of Arms. The face value, country, and year are all noted on the front. The background of the coin features Christian motifs of angels blowing on trumpets and winged demons.
The reverse of the coin portrays an image of King Arthur in his royal armor, holding an open hand up. The background features an angel blowing on a trumpet, vases with flowers, and rats to show the balance between good and evil.
