In Canada, there are about 26,000 grizzly bears living in Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, the Yukon, Nunavut, and the northern part of Manitoba. Most adults weigh between 290-790 lbs. with an average length of 6.5 feet. Hibernating for 5 to 7 months each year, these hefty hunters emerge from their caves ready to eat! Although primarily known as carnivores, Grizzly Bears frequently eat an omnivorous diet of both animals and plants. They are known for wading into rivers and streams to fish for salmon and clams.
