The newest release from the Perth Mint’s Australian Silver Kookaburra Series is now available from Bullion Exchanges. This 2020 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Coin marks a special anniversary release, celebrating 30 years of the Australian Kookaburra Bullion Series.

This 1 oz coin is struck with .999 pure silver and is one of three new silver Kookaburra coins being released this year. The Silver Perth Mint Kookaburra Coins are legal Australian tender, with a face value of $1 AUD. A new layer of security has been added in the form of a micro-engraved letter only visible with a magnifying glass, located on the coin’s reverse. Due to its declared mintage of only 375,914 pieces, collectors everywhere will flock to purchase one of these 1 oz kookaburra coins before they fly off the shelves.

Kookaburras are kingfisher birds of prey native to Australia and New Guinea. There are four species of Kookaburra, including the famous Laughing Kookaburra. The call of the Laughing Kookaburra is widely recognized, as it has been commonly used as a sound effect for years in movies and television shows.

The obverse of the kookaburra coin features a special 30th-anniversary design by artist Stuart Devlin. Originally released in 1990, the image depicts a kookaburra perched on a tree stump, surrounded by beautiful native foliage. The widely recognized design of Jody Clark’s Queen Elizabeth II bust appears in a small circle near the top of the coin. Various inscriptions also appear on the obverse.

The reverse of the silver Kookaburra coin features a Laughing Kookaburra sitting on a roof at sunrise, serenading those nearby with its distinctive call. Inscriptions for the weight and purity encircle the rim of the coin, alongside the phrases “30TH ANNIVERSARY” and “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA”.
