The newest release from the Australian Perth Mint’s platinum coin program is now available for purchase from Bullion Exchanges. This 2020 1 oz Australian Platinum Kangaroo Perth Mint Coin bounds onto the scene containing .9995 pure platinum and weighing 1 ounce. This is a truly modern coin. For example, the Perth Mint has also micro-engraved a letter onto the coin's reverse that is only visible under a magnifying glass. This gives it an extra layer of security. But this kangaroo series coin also comes from a strong pedigree.

The Perth Mint kangaroo series began in 1986 with the release of the gold nugget coin. Gold nugget coins honored famous Australian gold nuggets but didn't sell well internationally. The Perth Mint later redesigned the series around the more recognizable kangaroo when it issued the gold kangaroo coin series in 1990. The silver kangaroo later released in 1993 with a proof version, and eventually a brilliant uncirculated silver kangaroo coin in 2016. The newest member of the Perth Mint kangaroo family, the platinum kangaroo, was first minted in 2018. The kangaroo series is among the most popular coins the Perth Mint offers, due to featuring the Australian national animal.

The reverse for the 2020 platinum kangaroo displays the familiar image of a Red Kangaroo hopping gracefully. Rays of sunshine emanate from the center of the coin’s background. Inscriptions showing the name of the coin, the year of issue, the weight, and the purity surround the rim.

The obverse of the kangaroo coin displays the regal effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by the British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. She wears an ornate crown and elegant royal jewelry. The rim shows inscriptions with her name, the country's name, and the denomination of 100 dollars.
