2020 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda 10 Yuan .999 Fine BU (Sealed) 

Bullion Exchanges is now carrying the 2020 1 gram Chinese Gold Panda 10 Yuan coin, the latest release in the Chinese Mint’s Gold Panda series. Struck from 1 gram of .999 fine gold, this coin has a face value of 10 yuan. 

First issued in 1982 by the People’s Bank of China, the Chinese Gold Panda series was initially available in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz sizes, with later additions of a 5 oz size, a 12 oz size, and a 1/20 oz size. Like the Perth Mint’s gold kangaroo series, the gold panda series is known for updating the image on its reverse on a yearly basis. 

In 2016, the People’s Bank of China began weighing the gold panda series in grams instead of ounces, with available weights of 1, 3, 8, 15, and 30 grams. Proof editions are struck in 1 kilo, 150 grams, 100 grams, and 50 grams. 

The reverse for this year’s coin depicts a baby panda lying on its back as it snacks on some bamboo that it is holding in its left paw. It is using its right paw to grab for more bamboo hanging from a nearby tree. The coin’s denomination is inscribed below the hanging leaves while the purity and weight are inscribed along the rim. 

The obverse features the Temple of Heaven, an imperial complex of religious buildings found in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The year of mintage is inscribed along the rim, alongside the Chinese Characters for “People’s Republic of China.”
