The Mexican Silver Libertad is among the most popular coin series to emerge from the Casa de Moneda de Mexico, which is also known as the Mexican Mint. After this respected mint first released the Mexican Libertad Silver coin back in 1982, the coin soon became highly sought after by collectors due to its striking and historic design. Due to the coin’s rising popularity, the Mexican Mint expanded production of the Silver Libertad in 1991, releasing fractional Libertads in addition to the classic 1 oz coin. Following the fractionals’ success, the Mexican Mint then decided to debut the 2 oz and 5 oz Mexican Libertads in 1996. When exploring all of these Libertad options, interested investors have an incredible opportunity to find the perfect fit for their growing portfolio

The obverse features the image of the Mexican Coat of Arms. An eagle sits on a cactus as it holds onto a snake with its beak and talon. The image is encircled by another design, the top half displaying the words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". The bottom half of the circular design is composed of a wreath containing an olive branch and an oak branch.

The reverse displays "El Ángel", or Angel of Independence, built-in 1910 to celebrate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victory, the Roman goddess, stands on top of the column. She holds a laurel wreath and broken chains to symbolize Mexico's victory at achieving independence. A Mexican landscape backdrop features volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
