This spectacular 2018-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle PCGS PF 69 First Strike (WP Label) is among the few latest Proof Silver American Eagles authenticated by the renowned PCGS as almost flawless and displayed in a superb West Point Label holder.
The first bullion and proof American Silver Eagles were issued by the US Mint in November 1986 and both coins showcase the same design - the famous Walking Liberty image created by the talented Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916-1947 half dollars. Proof versions are struck multiple times by using special blanks and dies to obtain a superb coin with a sharp contrast and finish - highly sought-after among investors and collectors around the world.
More than that, unlike the bullion coin, the proof edition bears the mintmark of the facility where it’s produced: “S” (San Francisco) mintmark on 1986-1992 coins, “P” (Philadelphia) mintmark, on 1993-2000 coins, and the “W” (West Point) mintmark on 2001-present coins (except for 2009, when no proof coins were issued).
