2017-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagle PCGS SP 70 First Strike

This 2017-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagle PCGS SP 70 First Strike coin is the new release from the U.S. Mint. The burnished American Eagle first released by the U.S. Mint in 2006 and became a sensation in the coin world.

Burnished coins have a unique finish, more matte and less shiny when compared to a standard bullion coin. This is a result of polishing the blanks before they are struck. Collectors believe that this technology even adds longevity to the design.

The obverse of the coin features the Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman and the reverse features the powerful and intimidating creature, heraldic bald eagle with a shield on its chest, holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons and the “E Pluribus Unum” banner in its beak.

The SP 70 First Strike grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) means that coin has no visual marks under 5x magnification, making it a highly collectible and demanded by any collector.

Coin Features:

  • Coin made .999 fine silver, weight of 1 troy ounce.
  • Struck by the US Mint at the West Point Mint, NY.
  • Exclusive burnished silver coin with a unique matte-like finish.
  • Graded by PCGS as SP 70 First Strike. SP - Specimen. SP 70 - Fully struck and lustrous, free of visual marks under 5x magnification. First Strike - The coin was certified within the first 30 days of issue.
  • United States legal tender coin with a $1 denomination.
  • Each silver coin bears the “W” mint mark reflecting it was produced at the West Point Mint.
  • Obverse: Displays the well-known Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman, and represents Lady Liberty gracefully moving toward the sunrise, holding branches of laurel and oak in her left hand and with her figure enveloped in the United States flag.
  • Reverse: Features the magnificent heraldic eagle, designed by John M. Mercanti, engraved as carrying a shield, arrows and an olive branch - the symbol of peace and preparedness to defend America. The eagle holds the “E Pluribus Unum” banner in its beak and is surrounded by the thirteen stars (honoring the 13 original colonies). Inscriptions also include the purity, weight, face value and “United States of America."
