The 2017-W 1/2 oz $25 Proof Gold American Eagle features a stunning design that is recognized worldwide and often considered the most beautiful design of American coinage. This beauty has led the Gold Eagle to be the most popular coin in the United States.

The obverse features a modified rendition of the Augustus Saint-Gaudens design used on the U.S. twenty-dollar gold pieces from 1907 until 1933. This series has run from 1986 to today in both an Uncirculated and Proof finish, providing great diversity for both the collector and investor.

The obverse design, created at the turn of the century by famous artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens, shows Lady Liberty confidently striding forward, carrying a lit torch in front of her to illuminate the way. Her other hand clutches an olive branch. Brilliant rays of light emanate from the background, where the U.S. Capitol building is found in the bottom-left corner. Fifty stars fill the outer border, with the legend "LIBERTY" curling along the top rim. The year "2017" appears to Miss Liberty's right.

The reverse features an original design created by artist Miley Busiek. A family of bald eagles is shown, the mother caring for her two eaglets in the nest while the father brings back an olive branch. The mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are found to the left and right, respectively. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" runs across the top rim. The bottom rim bears the weight and the coin denomination.
