The Perth Mint began producing silver Kookaburra coins in 1990, designing a different image for the reverse every year. It is a popular Australian animal coin series, joining the ranks of the beloved Gold and Silver Kangaroo Series and Gold and Silver Koala Series. Currently, only silver Kookaburras are minted, with the exception of a special 2020 1/10th oz gold Kookaburra coin created in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Kookaburra’s Perth Mint debut. 

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, adorned with her royal crown and jewels, along with the denomination.

The reverse displays two kookaburras sitting on a fence post. A special rooster privy appears near the top right. Inscriptions include the “P” mintmark, weight, purity, and the year of mintage.
