This 2017 1 oz Palladium American Eagle PCGS MS 70 First Day of Issue is the first palladium coin in US Mint American Eagle program. For the first time in 20 years, the U.S. Mint added a new metal to the American Eagle program with this Palladium coin. This is a significant moment in American numismatics, which will make the American Eagles even more exclusive and collectible coins on the market.
The coin’s obverse design based on Adolph A Weinman’s Winged Liberty dime, which has also been called the Mercury dime. This depicts a profile view of Lady Liberty with her hair tucked into a winged Phrygian cap. The reverse is based on the American Institute of Architects’ gold medal from 1907 and bears an eagle perched on a rock as it pulls at a laurel branch with its beak and talons.
This particular coin was sent to PCGS within the first of official issue and verified as MS 70 - A fully struck coin free of visual marks under 5x magnification.
